- The hot enamel
Hot enamel, also called vitreous enamel, is a material made by fusing powdered glass.
The powder melts at temperatures ranging from 700 - 980 ° C either with the use of a blowtorch or in a special furnace.
It then hardens to a smooth and durable glassy coating.
Glazing is an old and widespread technique, mainly used in jewelry and decorative arts.
indicatively some of the techniques you will be taught are:
- Appliance of the enamel on to the metal with dry & wet placement.
- Impession of a design on to an enamel with a pencil.
- Firing the enamel using a blowtorch.
- Firing the enamel using a furnace.
- Cloisonné and plique-à-jour techniques.
COURSE INFORMATION
- The duration of the course is 10 hours (5 two-hour meetings) – meeting once a week.
- The cost is €160/month (24% VAT not included)
- In order to participate in the course, it is necessary to know the basic techniques of silver and goldsmithing (sawing, filing, finishing).
- Classes are held in the morning or afternoon in groups of 3 people.
- All tools and materials required are provided free of charge by the School as part of the training.
- Upon completion of the course you are given a certificate of attendance.
